Being without a car has freed me of one bill, the car insurance. Not that it was ever really a lot of money for me, I drive safe, don’t get tickets, and frankly I’m a thirty something guy. I do however want to ask you all to check out a program for us, so we can get back on the road.

• Drop full coverage on older cars.  Check your full payout amount for total loss with your agent and decide if you will save more with less coverage than you gain with full payout.  Usually within the first 18 months or less you will have saved as much on the premium difference as they will payout.
• Take a higher deductible amount.  Often times the amount saved over the first year covers the deductible difference and if you have a few cars insured maybe even in the first six months
• Where ever possible get all your policies through the same company and ask an agent to check for extra discounts and to run a couple of price comparisons.
• Whenever switching insurance companies start with the cheapest policy.  With many companies, you pay full price on the first policy and get the additional policies at a discount.  With cheap minimum coverage on an old beater as the primary vehicle you can often times get the full coverage on new vehicles at a significantly discounted price as the second car.  Case in point my old truck cost me $22.00 month in liability, and when it came time to buy our long lost Pontiac Aztek the full coverage price was $32.00 a month additional.  Full coverage on it alone as the primary vehicle was more than $50 a month and the discounted rate for my truck would have only been $18.
• Take careful notes when shopping your insurance around, if you got to company B and say Company A offered me this rate for this coverage what can you do, you will often times get everything you could hope for and more.
